Overview

The ILLUMRA E9X-HSM HVAC setback module contains a dry contact output controlled by wireless device inputs. A common application is to link it with E9T-MDCCP wireless window / door sensors to save energy by preventing HVAC equipment from running when windows or doors are open.

Operating description

The E9X-HSM can be linked to one or more E9T-MDCCP sensors. The dry-contact output will be CLOSED when all of the sensors are CLOSED (magnet is close to the sensor) and the dry-contact output will be OPEN when any of the sensors are OPEN (magnet is NOT close to the sensor). Follow instructions below to configure the devices for this operating scenario.

Configuration Instructions (Video showing process)

For the operating scenario described above it is necessary to link the sensors and change the "Occupancy Auto-off" and "Invert Relay" parameters using a button press sequence as described below.

Activate Basic Setup Menu mode on HSM module: (see attached EnOcean_Relay_Interaction_Guide_Oct2013_04.pdf)

  1. On the HSM module, hold both the Menu and Set buttons until both LED's turn GREEN (about 2 seconds), then release. The Menu LED should be blinking green and the Set LED should be blinking Amber.

Link Window/door sensors to the HSM module:

  1. On the Magnet contact sensor, make sure the magnet is NOT close to the sensor for linking in "Window mode", then press the link button through the side hole, a red led should blink on the sensor. (If the magnet is close to the sensor during linking, the sensor is linked in "Entry door mode" which functions differently and is not desired in this scenario.)
  2. Confirm that the Set LED pauses Green for 2 seconds indicating that the sensor has been linked.

Set Occupancy Auto-off to Disabled:

  1. While in Basic Setup Menu mode, press Menu Button 5 times to select "Occupancy Auto-off" option. Confirm Menu LED has 5 Green blink pattern repeating after a pause. (Cover the Set LED (right side) and count blink pattern on Menu LED (left side).)
  2. Count Set LED blink pattern (Cover the Menu LED (left side) and count blink pattern on Set LED.) If Set LED has 3 Green blink pattern, proceed to step 3 to change it to 1 blink. If it is already set to 1 blink it is correct, skip to step 5.

(3 Green blinks indicates 15 minute default - this will cause an unexpected state change after 15 minutes).

  3. Press Set LED 1 time to select "Disabled" setting indicated by 1 Amber blink pattern.

  4. Hold Set Button until Set LED blinks Green, then release, to save setting. Confirm 1 Green blink pattern (Disabled). (Cover the Menu LED with finger and count blink pattern on Set LED).

  5. Exit Basic Setup Menu by holding both Menu and Set buttons until 2 Green blinks (about 2 seconds).

Set Invert Relay to Enabled (optional):

  1. On the HSM module, hold both the Menu and Set Buttons until both LED's turn Amber (about 4 seconds), then release. The Menu LED should be blinking Amber and the Set LED should blink Green.
  2. Press the Menu button 2 times to select Invert Relay menu option. Confirm the Menu LED has 2 Amber Blink pattern.
  3. Press Set LED 2 times to select "Enabled" setting indicated by 1 Amber blink pattern.
  4. Hold Set Button until Set LED blinks Green, then release (about 3 seconds). Confirm 2 Green blink pattern (Enabled).
  5. Exit Advanced Set menu by holding both buttons for about 3 seconds.

Optional Instructions

Restore Factory Defaults

  1. Hold both Menu and Set buttons until Menu LED is solid RED and Set LED is solid Amber, then release (about 15 seconds).
  2. Hold Set LED until LEDs blink (about 3 seconds). HSM module will restart.

Change the "Auto-off Timeout" to "Disabled" (video showing process)

  1. Activate Basic Setup Menu mode on the HSM module by holding both the Menu and Set buttons until both LED's turn GREEN (about 2 seconds), then release. The Menu LED should be blinking green and the Set LED should be blinking Amber.

  2. While in Basic Setup Menu mode, press Menu Button 5 times to select "Occupancy Auto-off" option. Confirm Menu LED has 5 Green blink pattern repeating after a pause. (Cover the Set LED (right side) and count blink pattern on Menu LED.)

  3. Count Set LED blink pattern (Cover the Menu LED with finger and count blink pattern on Set LED).

(3 Green blinks indicates 15 minute default - this may cause an unexpected state change after 15 minutes).

  4. Press Set LED 1 time to select "Disabled" setting indicated by 1 Amber blink pattern.

  5. Hold Set Button until Set LED blinks Green then release, to save setting. Confirm 1 Green blink pattern (Disabled).

  6. Exit Basic Setup Menu by holding both Menu and Set buttons until 2 Green blinks (about 2 seconds).

Unlink a window/door sensor from the HSM module

    1. Hold both the menu and the set button until both LED's turn green.

    2. The Menu button should be blinking green and the Set button should be blinking Amber.

    3. Press the set button 3 times in rapid succession.

    4. The set button should blink three times, take a break, and repeat.

    5. Press the link button located on the window door sensor, a red led should blink on the sensor.

    6. The Set button will turn red for 2 seconds when a sensor is unlinked.

    7. To exit the unlinking mode hold both buttons for 2 seconds.

Exit configuration mode in 1 of 3 ways:

  1. Hold Menu and Set buttons for 2 seconds.
  2. Remove power from HSM module.
  3. Wait 60 seconds for blinking to stop.

The HSM module should resume normal operation.

Troubleshooting

Problem: A sensor stops responding during testing:

The Window/Door Sensors have limited energy capacity. In normal operation this is not an issue but during testing the energy can be depleted by frequent transmissions. Test whether the sensor has energy by pressing the Link button; if a RED LED blink is visible through the side of the sensor, then the sensor has enough energy to operate. If there is no blink, the sensor needs to be recharged. Place the sensor in bright light for a several minutes to recharge.

Problem: The Relay Closes changes state after 15 minutes even when the sensor doesn't change state.

The Occupancy Auto-off timeout is configured to the default of 15 minutes. Follow the instructions above or in the attachments to set this parameter to "Disabled".
