Manual-On / Auto-Off (Vacancy mode) is the default operating mode when using a motion sensor with ILLUMRA line voltage controllers. When linked in the basic linking mode only the switch can turn on the lights and the motion sensor will turn them off. This operating mode is compliant with California Title 24 requirements.

If it is desired that lights turn on with motion, activate "Occupancy mode" with Auto-ON/Auto-OFF functionality by following these instructions to link a motion sensor to any of the ILLUMRA line voltage controllers  .

Linking Steps:

  1. Consider restoring factory defaults to establish a known starting point
  2. Hold the MENU button for 15 seconds to activate the Advanced Menu. After 5 seconds the relay will click once, continue holding and after another 10 seconds, the status LED will show a steady amber blink pattern. Advanced menu Mode 1 is now active.
  3. Optional: Link a switch in Mode 1 by clicking the top button of the switch 3x. The Status LED will show GREEN and pause blinking for a few seconds to confirm the switch was linked to the controller.
  4. Briefly press the SELECT button 1 time to activate Advanced Mode 2. The Status LED will show a 2 AMBER blink pattern with a pause.
  5. On the Motion sensor, press the LINK (or LRN) button to send a link message. The Status LED on the controller will pause green for a few seconds indicating the motion sensor was linked to the controller. The Sensor is now linked in Auto-ON/Auto-OFF mode with a 15 minute auto-off time out.
  6. Exit linking mode through one of: 1) wait 60 seconds for the Status LED to stop blinking, 2) power the controller OFF and back ON, or 3) Hold the Menu button for 5 seconds to back up one level in the menu.
  7. Optional: Test that linking was successful by pressing the LINK button on the motion sensor 6 times quickly. This activates a test mode and the light will toggle after each subsequent press. The test mode will exit automatically 60 seconds after the last link message was received.

Testing the Auto-ON functionality

Notes:

  • The Occupancy Mode (Auto-ON / Auto-OFF) function of the motion sensor turns the lights ON automatically upon motion when a room is vacant prior.
  • If the room was occupied and a switch was used to turn the lights off, the room is in Override OFF mode and the motion sensor will not turn the lights on until the room is detected to be vacant.
  • To set vacancy mode in the room, either: 1) wait for the occupancy timer to time out (15 minutes by default), or Power cycle the controller OFF by turning the breaker OFF, then ON.
  • Also note that solar powered motion sensors sleep for up to 2 minutes after sensing motion to conserve energy. Ensure the sensor is sufficiently charged or has a backup battery for proper operation. To

Testing steps:

  1. Power cycle the controller to reset vacancy mode
  2. Trigger the motion sensor
  3. Confirm that the lights turn ON when motion is sensed
  4. Confirm that the lights turn OFF after the occupancy timeout

Important note: When the controller is used with the E9T-MDS motion / light sensor there are two operating modes:

  • , daylight hold-off may be active which will turn the lights off if the sensor measures sufficient light
